    Probably not but you should definitely claim what you can.

    They are more clued up on tax credits on the benefits board.
  • Update - Rosendales have sent me a letter stating that all payments will now need to be made directly to HMRC (what I was doing anyway).
    The debt was nearly clear, until HMRC advised that they have overpaid me for another tax year. At least I know the drill now.
    Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task

    If you gave HMRC the correct information about your circumstances and they made the error with the overpayment you can ask them to consider writing the debt off. You would use the TC846 form to make the request.

    So many people are been overpaid, then chased mercilessly for the overpayment, the whole tax credit system is in dyer need of radical overhaul.

    This money was meant to help these people, yet in a lot of cases just adds to there misery, good concept, but a victim of bad planning and ill thought out policy.
