Braces making my teeth yellow

Options
Hi all,
I got the clear ceramic braces 2 weeks ago and it's all going v well, I've got used to speaking and eating. And have been scrupulous about cleaning them thoroughly after each meal or snack using an electric toothbrush angling it all round the braces and using interdental brushes.

But within the space of the first 48 hours my teeth went yellow, they're now a dirty buttery colour  no matter how thoroughly I'm cleaning them. I honestly don't think its a cleaning problem as I'm being so careful and was prepared for all that.

I have read something online about the bonding resin used to cement the brackets on can cause discolouring, or the flouride preparation used to prep the teeth...anyone have an experience or knowledge of this please?

I'm not conscious of the braces at all, I've waited many years for them and am so excited for an improved smile...but the dirty yellow teeth is affecting my confidence esp at work...I look like I'm not cleaning my teeth :(

The brackets and glue stain quite easily with curry especially tumeric. Black tea, black coffee and cola can also be a problem. Go back to the orthodontist and ask.

Thanks, I've not had any staining foods and I've given up tea and coffee as people had warned me about this.
I have had green tea but immediately swished with water after.

I have an appointment next week so will mention it then. I just feel like I'm being vain mentioning the colour to the dentist when the brace is there to do something important..if that makes sense.

The green tea is probably the culprit.

But mention it to the orthodontist. You're having orthodontics with clear ceramic braces, I'm sure he won't think you vain! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

(Seriously - he won't. You've made a choice to improve the look of your smile. That is important to you, and it will be important to him/her too.)
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

If it's just been 48 hours since the fluoride prep, then that must be the reason. I remember having really yellow teeth when I first had braces on too. Also, I don't think you should be this furious with the cleaning. 3 times a day is fine: Morning, after lunch and before bed.

Thanks all, I'll ease up with the cleaning as the extra scrubbing isn't removing the yellowness.

I really don't think it's anything I've eaten or drank as I've been v careful and when I've had anything vaguely staining I've immediately brushed or at the very least swished with water.

As it happened so quick I really do think it's some sort of problem with the tooth prep, glue, bonding resin, fluoride etc. The more I've read about it I'm not the only one who's found this. I'll mention it to the dentist at my review in 10days as hopefully they can clean off this excess. Surely I don't need glue/resin on the parts of the teeth not covered by the bracket?

    :)
