Broken Fit-bit

My strap on my surge is broken. Fit-bit are sending me a new one, and I am being told to recycle my old one.

Trust I can pass on my old one, with no effect on the way the new one works? Just the strap that is broken

You can do what you like with your old one as far as I am aware, they will replace the entire unit as it is one piece.
Although if the strap is broken how are you going to use it?

I scratched the screen on my Fitbit charge hr. Fitbit sent me a new one so I gave the cracked one to my mum to use. They tell you to recycle it but you can (if it's all working) pass it on
