Love to shop card due to expire, can i transfer the balance

I very fortunately found a love to shop gift card that i ordered from TCB but it only has a month left before it expires. I emailed LTS and they said i need to spend the balance. I have £90 to spend so it is quite a bit and dont want to lose it.
If i bought something from argos or wilkos and then returned it do they have to transfer the balance back to the LTS card or just one of their own gift cards
If i ordered a new LTS card with a few quid on it why can i not move the balance onto this card

Could you buy L2S vouchers with it?

The times I've used L2S vouchers and needed a refund the shop has refunded back onto its own store card. Had this two or three times with different shops so that looks to be standard practice.
