I can't help thinking that Mr H should have exercised a little more "care and discretion"......;)

"Staff must exercise care and discretion in all contacts, including social contacts, with journalists or others working in the media; the latter includes radio, television, wire services and the press at national, regional or local level. "0 -
The reason anything gets 'complicated' is to make sure the person requiring that service, product or whatever cannot possibly succeed in a DIY approach, but has to pay someone to do it for them, such as an IFA, tax consultant, banker, insurance broker and so on.
They all try to make out how only they can help, and st the end of the day they are just plain old salesmen. They withhold information to maximise their own profit while at the same time making their client feel as tho' they are getting good value for money.
We the public cannot validate if we are getting good value for money, thus the need for various ombudsmen to try and police it all.
The fact that ombudsmen exist is enough of a clue that you're going to be ripped off. If it was all nice and clear and charges easy to understand then the ombudsman would not be needed.
Just a thought.
