Will this affect us for 6 years?

Hi ,

Last month I messed up and didn't put enough money into bills account to cover mortgage. As a result the DD was returned. I noticed this this the following day and called the bank and made the payment with my debit card. This means that the payment was a day late.

I can see that this is logged on my credit report this month as a missed payment. I know it was late and that i can't dispute it, even if it was just for one day!

Will this prevent us from getting a new mortgage for 6 years? This has never happened before and we have had mortgage for 10 years. Never been behind with payments or in arrears. Are we screwed until 2022?????

One day late should not affect your credit file. The only way it might do is if your payment date is say the 30th of the month and you make a payment on the next day (ie the 1st) which is a different month then yes it will affect it. Thats why always best to have a payment date a few days before end of the month to allow a bit of breathing space as if say the payment due on 25th and you paid on 26th it would not get recorded.

This happened to me once with a bank and I rang up to say it was a bit harsh that 1 day late meant a marker on my file. The girl explained the above and said that it was their policy if paid within 14 days it wouldnt get recorded but because of the way the data is reported to the credit reference agencies they could avoid it but would send an ammendment through to the credit agencies. After 2 weeks it dropped off.

Give them a call and see what they can do.

Checked again today and it is definitely on our credit file. It shows as as a '1'. I am so annoyed about this. I know that it is our responsibility to pay on time but it was a genuine mistake and we paid the very next day!!

Does the fact that this '1' is on our report mean that we can't get a high street rate for 6 years?

Call the company concerned. They can ammend data, just explain as above.

Is your payment day very late in the month?

If you get a missed payment covered in the month you can often avoid a '1'.
