Self assessment for mileage relief

Hello,
Quick Q.
I am in the process of claiming the mileage relief back for 2015-2016.
I have covered close to 16,000 miles at a combination of 18ppm and 13ppm.
I have received from my employer £2656.03 whilst at 45/25ppm the total would be £5932.48.
Difference is £3276.45 @ 20% is £655.29
Now do I claim this via a P87 or self assessment. Is the £2500 limit applied to what I'm physically claiming?
Thanks

"Only fill in this form [P87] if your allowable expenses are less than £2,500 for the year."
So you need to claim via SA submission.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -
Thanks for clarifying. Thought as much, will begin the process. Hopefully it's not too difficult.0

we do SA each year just for mileage expenses alone taking employer contribution off , its very easy to do0

Remember that you claim £3276, not £655 which, unfortunately, many do. HMRC will calculate the tax relief on the claim.0
