Benefits and pension advice please

I feel trapped in this situation that I will find it difficult to get a job when I am ~55 having been a full time carer and I also won't have any pension other than the small amount I built up in my 20's.

Pensions are not taken into account for any means tested benefits. You can contribute up to £2,880 per tax year and still get tax relief on this amount, meaning a total gross contribution of £3,600.
I do this with a stakeholder pension, there are various other options.0 -
