A letter has dropped through my door requesting confirmation that a (named) person lives at my address, he doesnt and I've never heard of him.
They quote his previous address (a rental some ten miles away) and ask me to ring them to confim or deny that he lives here.
The letter ends "If you do not contact us we will assume that you are the correct person and we will contact you again in order that we can get the matter resolved".
My questions are:-
1. Is this a bona fide company?
2. Should I ring and start talking to them?
3. What might happen if I just ignore it/them.
Any assistance is welcome.
TIA

It's a firm of debt collectors. As bona fide as any other DCA.
They are fishing for a particular debtor. You are likely not the only person who has received such a letter.
Is there any similarity between your name and the debtor's name?0 -

No, no similarity at all.
I've lived here three decades, and I know the names of everyone living here since the property was built.
Shall I give them a ring?Hi, we’ve decided to remove your signature.0 -
Depends if you want to be hassled in the future or for them to not contact you again ?
Calling them may go some way to stop future hassle.0 -

Gave them a ring and they rubbed out my address.
For saying I was helping them they aint very customer friendly.Hi, we’ve decided to remove your signature.0 -
I would never phone a DCA.
Write to them simply informing them that Mr X is not, and never has been, a resident at your address. Nothing more, nothing less."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
