Tax rebate from PAYE - will it be automatic

Hello,

I left a job mid way through the tax year. Claimed JSA for a bit but didn't get a new job in the tax year.

Will I get a letter soon saying I'm due a rebate?

I'm sure this happened last time but its been a few months and nothing so far.

Thanks

The tax year only ended on 5th April.

Do you know if you are actually due a rebate?

    Has your JSA now ended?

iF you handed on your P45 to the job centre when you signed on they will make any repayment due to you. They should do it by the end of May.

If you didn't hand in our P45 you will need to contact HMRC.

As Sheramber says if you handed in your P45 when you went to the initial claim interview for JSA then they should issue the refund to you.

If this is not the case then HMRC will automaticall review the 2015/2016 tax year. This process usualy starts in mid June and continues on through to around October.

If you are sure you are due a refund and want it sooner, then you will need to contact HMRC.

Were you still signing on at 5 April 2016? If so try and call when you have the P60 substitute from the jobcentre to hand. If you had signed off before then have the P45 that jobcentre will have sent to you to hand, just in case HMRC have not yet received all the JSA details from JCP.

  • happenstance - are you working again now? You won't get a refund of tax via PAYE if you overpaid the tax in the last tax year so you'll need to request a refund (if any is due) with HMRC.

Give the HMRC Employee Helpline a call on 0300 200 3300 and talk it through with them.

    Hope that helps.
