Hi. I have 2 jobs. The first , main employer uses correct tax code.. Second employer payslip said BR when it came. I have corrected them on this. Will I get a refund from HMRC automatically at some point or do I need to actually apply for this?
Thanks
Thanks

If one employer is using the "correct tax code" i.e. one that is based on your personal allowance, then it would be absolutely corrrect for the second employer to use the BR tax code.
If you don't actually earn enough over between these two jobs to pay tax, then you can ask HMRC to allocate your personal allowance over both jobs. But that would be down to you.0 -
HMRC usually hold the money and use it to offset future tax payments.
You can just call them and ask for it back, on the whole they are incredibly efficient.0 -

This is assuming that HMRC actually owe the OP money, which will only be the case if they are earning less than their annual allowance of £11,000 in the first job. If this is the case then, as antrobus says, the OP should contact HMRC to get their tax code split over the two jobs.
If they earn more than £11k in job 1, but the total between the two jobs does not take them into higher rate tax, then the current arrangement will result in them paying the correct amount of tax overall.
If the total of the two jobs takes them into higher tax then they are actually underpaying and again should get in touch with HMRC to get their tax codes adjusted to collect this.0 -

In order for anyone to advise on this matter you really need to give details of your earnings in both jobs,0

Your tax free allowance is used up on your main job.
You do not get an allowance on second so you get BR code meaning you pay tax on all earnings usually 20%?
This as above posters say depends on your total earnings etcThe world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -
Thanks for these replies. I had misunderstood what BR meant. I can see now that my current situation is correct. Most helpful. Much appreciated.0
