O/S Daily Tuesday 17 May 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x
Now light, cloudy but dry underfoot, I’ll put washing on the line shortly.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, DS2 still in his pit, but will wake him shortly to get ready for school.
Dinner tonight is supposed to be HM chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, but I forgot to get the chicken out to defrost and don’t think it will be by tonight, so if not, we’ll have pasta in creamy tomato and creamy mushroom sauce with a breaded chicken portion. Dinner last night was scampi, chips and beans/veg, I had fish, jacket potato and veg.
I maybe won’t be wishing for a busy day again – the day didn’t start well with a verbally abusive customer that decided they didn’t like how I had my desk arranged so decided to take a swipe at it, and deposit my desk contents on to the floor of the office after they didn’t like to hear what they were told. The day just didn’t get any better with another verbally abusive customer who had decided it would be good to shout and swear in my face and then as they left shouted abuse at the top of their voice to the waiting queue of customers. On top of these incidents we were busy – 1 member of staff called in sick and another got a telephone call early in the day to say her child was sick and she had to go home. Maybe today will be calmer.
I spoke to deceased person’s immediate family last night and all the official paperwork now appears to be in order, and they managed to get the venue they wanted for the wake, and have chosen the menu etc, they also met with the undertaker and did official bits with him, so it sounds pretty much shorted. Didn’t sound like FIL and MIL were involved – but still at this point there’s still no need for the Executor to be involved as it’s immediate family that are sorting out the funeral etc, the Executor will be sorting out the legal stuff once the funeral has been held. I think the immediate family will be watching with a very close eye on what the Executor is doing, and making sure everything is done correctly.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Another beautiful sunny morning it is too, just wish I could wake up enough to enjoy it! I slept really well but could have stayed in bed for another hour or so.
Nothing much happening here, the ironing was done last night and I remembered to water all the plants. Took the school hanging baskets in, I'm sure the children will water them to death for the first few days then they will be forgotten!
Hope you are all well and have a good Tuesday. Take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone.
It's a beautiful morning again, hope it lasts.
Just going to post and run as I'm about to face*ime one of my nephews in Australia.
Happy Tuesday everyone.0 -
Good morning!!!
My goodness yesterday was hectic in work and I expect much of the same today. The good thing is that the day flies in.
I'm up early enough to make a filling breakfast, sausage and toast I'm thinking.
I'll do some exercise tonight which is overdue too so I'll sleep like a baby tonight.
Have a great day everyone.0 -
Morning!
A rather grey, cool morning but not raining, the forecast for tomorrow is heavy rain so I am determined to enjoy today, though how I do that inside an air conditioned building may be a challenge.
I need to get showered and ready, have someone coming in to put a new memory into my old, reconditioned laptop rather than the one I am using now. At least I hope it really has been reconditioned because it had started to make an alarming buzzing noise.
Last night's dinner was made by OH and I shall gloss over it. I ate some cabbage and a very small baked potato. He is a good cook but has a tendency to cook things that I don't like but he and son benefit from an extra portion. Possibly my own fault, I am a picky eater.
Must whizz off, hope everyone has a good day.
Nmlc it is good to see that things are getting organised, that's one thing for you to not worry sboutI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all. Another glorious start with the sunshine streaming in through the blinds. Yesterday morning was sunny but accompanied by a chilly wind. By afternoon this had eased and we sat out the back reading. A lazy afternoon!
Mrs LW I hope no after effects have set in after that lunatic hit your car. Will he have learned a lesson by it? No, probably not!
I have the hairdressers this morning. Since I had the new shorter cut it soon gets out of hand and forever needs cutting. It would have gone another week I suppose but I wanted it tidy and easy to manage for our break next week.
Not a lot planned for when I get back. A pottering afternoon, but there is a little bit of ironing from yesterday's two wash loads. And I really should make a start on working my way round the inside windows! A much neglected job!
Good luck at SW today DUMPLING. Don't get downhearted if you haven't lost much 'cos you've had two big losses already. Hope your DD isn't too worked up about her exams today.
Have a nice day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed and take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone,
Looks like another bright and sunny day today - rain forecast for tomorrow so shall make the most of it!
MrsLW - sorry to hear about the car but as others have said, it could've been a lot worse - sending ((hugs))
Jill - my DH was in a grump yesterday too - he was tired from camp and the job hunting is pretty stressful but even so.....poor kids caught the worst of it, I just tell where to get off!
Lainey - your fur babies are beautiful X
Candlelight/JackieO - nooooo to no more Home Fires, I love that programme. I've still to watch the last episode so shhhhh don't tell me!
Nmlc - glad to hear arrangements are running smoothly. What a hellish day you had with customers though. So sorry you had to put up with that, it's not on.
Managed to get DS2 out on his bike yesterday to run an errand. Today I will take him on day one of the 0 to 5k app (think it's warm up 5 mins, then 10 X 1 min runs alternating with 10 X 1 min walks, then a cool down). Baby steps. The aged 16 trousers from Nxxt fitted although he does look a bit like Simon Cowell with a high waist and they need taking up, but at least he has something to wear to the wedding.
I'm off to the gym before starting work at 10 (at job 2 today, which is 4 hours admin for a charity). Put on 1/2 lb at SW which was to be expected, so now 1.5 lbs away from target - so frustrating. Washing to be sorted before I go, plus my packed lunch bag.
Will be cooking lemon and pepper salmon, jacket potato and green beans tonight. Bought a side of salmon from Ts which said £12 on the packet but scanned at £10. The remainder will be frozen for a fish pie later in the month
Have a good day all

Morning everyone,
Dry and sunny here but bbrrr cold, meant to warm up later.
Work this morning then this afternoon want to get some chores done in the house, change bed etc. The WM is chugging away already so that can be drying on the line.
Didn't sleep so well last night, guess coz OH is away am more on the edge, even in my sleep! Never mind, he is home tonight so hopefully can catch up, made the coffee strong this morning so hopefully will get me through.
Nmlc sorry you had such a rough day yesterday, hope it's better today, glad arrangements are going well so far for the funeral.
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x0 -
Morning all,
Nice bright day here again off to work for me and dd coming in for a days work, she is doing three days working at her placement and two days for us it will be nice having her in as she is a good worker.
Not sure about dinner tonight I think there are some meatballs in the freezer but it might be too hot for them, I will go and have a rummage in a while.
Need to do a wash tonight and have a sweep round.
Lainey your fur babies are beautiful xx
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone.
It's a beautiful morning again, hope it lasts.
Just going to post and run as I'm about to face*ime one of my nephews in Australia.
Happy Tuesday everyone.
Sorry about that post. Just had a mini problem first thing. I got an email from the elderly father of my SIL which said how much he'd enjoyed meeting me for the first time when at the funeral. Of course, I've known this lovely man for nearly 40 years and he's obviously detoriating. So sad and so worrying. Nephew number four is going to check on things there.
I'm about to get myself ready and go out for a walk, it's perfect weather for it. The garden may need some attention too.
I've got a very large copper log holder which is rather mucky. I'd love to have it gleaming and shiny again so have been trying various home remedies with varying degrees of success. Last night I tried vinegar and bicarb, not too good. As this thing is so big anything I do to it will take months!
Another laser treatment today, that at least is working! Just a clutch of stubborn hairs to go.
I hope all is well with everyone.0 -
Morning All
Big virtual hugs to everyone who needs one!
I'm another rubbish sleeper, and had yet another night tossing and turning. So much going on at the moment, my house has just gone on the market and I am trying to keep everything pristine for potential viewings. It keeps my brain knitting all night, thinking of extra stuff I need to do, especially in the garden!!
I must get into the shower and kick start my day - so tempting to stay in bed and read! However that won't get the ironing done, or plants tied up, or all the umpteen items on my to do list!!
Have a good day, whatever you are doing.
SP xxNote to self: I'm a human being, not a human doing! 😊0
