If the broker has said the lender needs the ID they probably do, but so does the broker. This thread is really frustrating as you were not exactly for brokers at the outset (which is fine), but you are making mountains out of molehills and you have chosen a broker not local but then do not want to send the ID, it makes no sense what so ever. Ask them if they will accept certified copies from the post office or your solicitor?

What would you do if the broker applied to a lender with no local branches? Ie a small building society or Metro bank/co-op for instance who do not have the biggest of branch networks.
If you're in a good position with a 10% deposit in the bank, great credit score and looking to buy somewhere well within your means then I see no advantage to a broker.
Someone to do the application for you - Saves you time.
Someone to liaise with the agents, solicitors and lender - Saves more time.
Someone to advise on processes and next steps - Avoids stress.
One dedicated point of contact - avoids stress, banging your head a against a wall being passed from pillar to post if problems arise.
Someone to ensure you are going to the right lender for your needs (that could be cheapest, quickest, most flexible etc).

If you read the threads on this site, you will see a few where people have been giving Decisions in principle for 90-95% LTV to then fiind they can only get 85% with that lender.

If you believe all straigth forward cases go through without a hitch, you would be surprised.

Save your breath my friend, hardly worth the bother. Its clearly someone who needs to understand the process more and its a sign that the mighty L&C probably haven't explained things properly and checked their client understood.

The OP should be calling L&C their chosen broker and asking these questions, not causing a storm in a teacup on here.

OP - google anti money laundering UK and you will see why we have to do the ID checks and be particularly thorough with non face to face business.
