CCJ after Bankruptcy

Hi,

I have a CCJ which was issued pre-bankruptcy. It was raised then to the high court after bankruptcy. I had a visit from a bailiff, showed him my certificate of bankruptcy and he disappeared without any hesitation.

I wrote to the court who issued the CCJ to inform them that I was bankrupt and see if they would mark it satisfied (I'm sure I'd heard this was possible, but maybe wrong).

I received a letter to say they have noted my bankruptcy but they cannot mark it as satisfied.

I'm just wondering if they could ever try to get this money again in the future. I know the bankruptcy will appear for 6 years and the CCJ has about 4 and a half years to go, so will disappear before the bankruptcy on my credit file, but I just wanted to check.

I'm hoping it's nothing to worry about but I thought I would ask.

Thanks all,

PD.

They cannot collect on the debt.

A CCJ is nothing compared to a bankruptcy so it won't have any effect on your credit at all.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

    Hi pd2012,

As the CCJ pre-dates the bankruptcy then the creditor cannot attempt to recover the debt in the future (assuming it was a provable debt in bankruptcy). The CCJ should show as a zero balance even though it may still show as a defaulted judgement (because it wasn't paid off and satisfied). If there is still a balance showing then you could contact one of the credit agencies and ask this to be updated (just to put your mind at rest).
