Called Halifax to ask a question and they credit checked me?

Hi,
I was issued a full offer by Halifax in Feb this year. I called them today to ask if paying for car insurance monthly would be a problem for them. They said its highly unlikely that it would. So I've decided I'll just pay for it in full. Rather than take the risk.
Whilst about to end the call, I noticed quickly on my experian credit file online, that BOS PLC have credit checked me for first mortgage. This is dated today, the same day I called them to speak to them.
I asked the lady I spoke to if she knew anything about this, she said no. She checked with her manager who also said no.
I've called experian to check that it's genuine and they say they'll have to ask BOS why they have done it.
Please can anybody shed any light on this? All the credit checks for the app were done in Feb. I can't understand why asking such a straight forward question has resulted in me being credit checked without being told or forewarned?
Cheers

They have opened the application on the system. Closing it made it re-score.
Your offer has not been withdrawn, so no problem?
Halifax system re-scores a case every time something happens on it, such as full application, valuation back, offer issued, certificate of title received.
Sometimes it's a soft search, sometimes it isn't.

Hi Kingstreet
Very helpful, thanks so much. So literally, just by going into the file and viewing it and coming out of it, causes it to check it again? Seems a lot for just asking a simple question with no action required.
Thanks0 -
It's an odd system.
Often, ten minutes after submitting it, you see the case is sitting on "re-quote, re-decision and re-submit" required. No idea why.
It may have been sitting on that case status when you called, so when it came to close it, those issues were rectified. Any call regarding that application number would have had the same result.I am a mortgage broker. So they will credo score when cert of title is supplied? Why do that also has anyone's mortgage been declined here. What do you think they look for at this stage?0

We once had credit card conduct questioned on a case where an alteration was required. This was the Halifax valuation fee the applicant paid on the card.I am a mortgage broker. Sorry to jump on this thread.....but have just noticed this on my Experian today.
I have just logged in and my score has had a hard check done TODAY. Our mortgage was offered 6 months ago (new build). Checks were done at the time and nothing since. Why have they done a hard check on me today?
Thank you in advance.0 -
After six months, the valuation goes stale and has to be refreshed and the system re-scores the case because it has been opened and data has changed.I am a mortgage broker. OK I see thanks for your reply.
We're going to apply for the new product in the next week. Just awaiting Experian to do the month updates first! which is usually around the next week.
Hoping all will be ok as we've had an address change and previous mortgage settled since last time they checked. Buying a new build! so had to sell house and move into parents. Hence mortgage settled and address change.0 -
Halifax has already taken its data feed from Experian for this month.
