Tax Relief on Expenses

I have a colleague who claims to be getting large refunds from HMRC by claiming tax relief on expenses incurred through work travel. However, these expenses are already reimbursed by our employer.
For example, if we spend £100 on a hotel our employer pays us £100. He is then claiming tax relief on £100.
I have been trying to convince him that he must be wrong. He is wrong, isn't he?!

If they weren't reimbursed, but were necessarily and wholly incurred for work, they probably would be legitimate. But clearly if reimbursed this is not valid to also claim.0
