Dyson handheld v stick vacuum

I'm in the market for a handheld cordless vacuum, I want something I can use for the edges, cobwebs on the wall/ ceilings, for the car etc.

Been looking at the Dyson Dc58 animal- I have a dog who does malt a little. And the V6, question is do I really need the 'animal version'? And if I buy an extension tube would that make my DC58 animal as good as the stick ones?

I bought a DC58 with my Tesco doubled up points, as I mainly want to use it on stairs and places my AirRam won't reach ie corners and edges.

However, my son has one of the Animal with stick versions and I thought that having a stick/wand,would be useful for ceiling corners and lights.

I found both cheaper generic and genuine Dyson purple wands on Amazon,so decided to ask Dyson whether as the V6 units look the same, the wand could be used.

I was told that the wand would fit, but, as there are no power contacts, the motor head would not rotate though there would be suction.

Then, having read comments on Amazon etc, from people who bought both wands and said they worked, rang Dyson again, but this time was told that unlike earlier versions, this wand and hand-held both have the contacts and so will work with the motorhead.

He did advise, though, that the new no tangle brush would not be a good buy, as it would use too much power from a hand-held (that also being a reason why they won't bring out a larger version ).

Reading various forums, this evening, though, I find that Dyson have advised people (even directly on one forum) that though the wand will fit , the motorhead brush work (as there are contacts) and the V6 units look and are the same, using a wand will damage the motor thus voiding the warranty.

Some people found this advise hard to believe, but the Dyson spokesmen said that the electrical setup in the handheld is different and hence the stress.

Now I'm really confused, especially as the second Dyson person I spoke to said that the wand was suitable.....but of course Dyson want you to buy the model including the wand, at a much higher price than the sum of the parts.

I have bought and just registered my DC58 and asked the question about using the DC59 stick/wand, again.

The man in the warranty registration section didn't know the answer, but called through to tech ,where it was confirmed that the DC59 stick will fit and work the motorised head on the DC58,but would invalidate the 2 year guarantee.

However, when I asked how they could possibly know a wand had been used, his response was , 'Quite',so I may buy one soon (there is a seller on Ebay offering the genuine Dyson stick for £23.50,just a little more than the price of the generic version on Amazon.
