eBay sent me £20 off voucher

Hello all,

Not sure if this is the correct place so please move if it is not.

Earlier this week eBay sent me a voucher for £20 of a £25 paypal spend. As it's spring time and we are tidying up our garden I decided to purchase some flower pots with the voucher.

I placed the order on Monday and received a dispatch email on Tuesday. Today, I have been informed the seller cannot fulfill the order and a refund has been issued. This means I have lost the £20 voucher as, according to eBay, it is redeemable only once.

Having contacted ebay there is nothing they will do. They will not issue a replacement. Extract from Ts&Cs below:

"18. eBay will not be responsible for any third party's performance or failure to perform any services related to any voucher promotion, or for any costs, damages, accident, delay, injury, loss, expense, or inconvenience that may arise in connection with the use of the voucher, provided that nothing shall limit eBay's liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence."

Has anyone been able to get around this sort of issue before?

Thanks,

Ross

I had the same problem before - nothing can be done really. Writing it off as a lesson. I now only use promotional vouchers with reputable sellers.

eBay does not refund/reissue any promotion vouchers. It does refund Nectar vouchers though.

I thought I was pretty safe with the seller. A feedback score over 800,000 and 99% positive.

    How mistaken I was.

I will not hesitate to leave -ve feedback in this case (I do not usually leave -ve (or neutral) feedback, even if delivery is late).

Same problem recently - except that part of the payment was with a Nectar Point credit.

The seller in this case has been delisted from eBay (presumably because he hasn't been supplying the goods ordered) and I don't doubt that Ebay will refund the part paid via PayPal.

I fully expect them to be difficult about restoring the Nectar credit, though.

That really is rotten luck. Before you leave negative feedback (and I agree, this is a case for doing so), it's worth sending the seller a message via ebay, a 'more in sorrow than in anger' sort, pointing out you've lost your £20 voucher and asking politely (teeth gritted!) what they could do to remedy matters. If they aren't helpful or don't reply, go ahead and leave negative feedback - but just in case they want to help...

Last time I had a refund where part of payment was by a Nectar voucher, I got a full refund as Paypal balance including Nectar voucher amount.

In fact, I believe the T/C of eBay Nectar voucher says that voucher will be reissued in case of refund.

You're right - and to be fair to eBay they have refunded the Nectar balance as well as the PayPal debit. A better outcome than I expected. :)
