Late Default date?

Hi, brief background...got into serious debt late 2010 and been on a DMP through stepchange ever since. I'm looking at making settlement offers to my creditors so checking my credit file etc. 3 of the 4 creditors defaulted my accounts in 2011 so these 'should' go in 2017. However Barclaycard put me on a number of plans internally, so the account never defaulted until September 2015, therefore this will sit on my account until 2021. Im reading online a default should be placed within 3-6 months, but cant find anything definitive. I have raised it with barclays and they said it was placed in 2015 because I missed 7 payments on the bounce in 2015 - which is untrue. I have now written to them but wondering whether anyone can advise or point me in the direction of how I get this amended/ removed? Thanks in advance as always
John

Hi,
Barclaycard seem to be a law unto themselves, they prefer AP agreements rather then defaulting you.
There is no specified timeframe where a creditor must default you, however a lot of people have found a written complaint can help to get a default date moved, or changed.
I would see what result you get from that first.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Hi there,
The default timeframe and arrangements to pay information is in the Information Commissioners Guidelines which you can find here. I would agree with Sourcrates that you should do a written complaint to Barclays and then escalate to the Financial Ombudsman Service and potentially the Information Commissioner themselves. Good luck,
Laura
