How serious is it if someone pretends to be a debt collector and writes, phones and emails you to collect a debt that is in dispute when they are not authorised to be a debt collector?

Why would someone do this? Getting money from people under false pretences is fraud and isf someone is doing this it is a police matter.DMP since August 2011

Because my accountant has failed to do their job properly and I disputed their bill. My accountant now phones me at work and sends me emails chasing for their money even though I have told them I am disputing their bill. Now they have got someone else involved who is pretending to be a debt collector who has also written to me trying to collect the money and they are both now calling me at work and at home and both sending me emails at home and at work as well. The debt collector my accountant is using is not registered with the FCA and it looks like they have just put a letter together on their pc.
They are both harassing me in the hope that I will feel bullied and just pay up but I won't. The court can sort it out because they won't to listen to me. Its bizarre how they are using someone who is pretending to be a debt collector when they are not.0

Aside from the excessive amount of effort they appear to be going to, they are obviously not qualified / experienced in collection of debts.
They either don't know about money claims on line or they don't know "my mate Danny"
At the point that "Danny" comes around and breaks your fingers for fun, you'll wish the accountant had just sent you a letter before action.
But seriously, write to the accountant, explain that you will be contacting his professional body as this is not how Chartered accountants do business, and you'll be making a formal complaint.
ps everyone knows someone who knows a bloke called "danny", right?
pps "Danny" once offered to collect some cash I was owed. I declined his services, as I'm not a thug. Although the breaking of legs was offered as a Free optional extra.0

Danny is my brother so there's no worries there.0

Write to them, stating that until the dispute regarding the bill is settled, or they agree to a mediation regarding the matter, you will accept no further communication from them via telephone or email. You will not accept appointments for them to visit your home or workplace and all further attempts to call you and email you rather than approach the mediation will be considered harassment and reported to the appropriate regulatory authorities. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....
