Totally confused (Is my credit rating still good?)....

I am still getting the phone calls, letters etc.. regarding outstanding payments, even though I have told nearly every creditor that I can think of that I am bankrupt. I was declared bankrupt over 2 weeks ago (I became famous in the insolvency adverts today), so would have thought that the credit reference agencies would have caught onto the fact by now. I had an absolutely excellent credit rating until about 1 month ago as I only stopped paying my cards/loans very recently.

However, today I got this letter dated 4th September, from one of my card companies, days after a letter from the same company dated 29th August acknowledging my bankruptcy.

"Dear Miss ......

As an important part of our ongoing service to customers and as responsible lenders ****** regularly review accounts to ensue they fully meet customer requirements. In order to carry out this review, we have used information relating to the performance of your account and considered data obtained from credit reference agencies. After careful consideration, we have with immediate effect reduced your credit limit from £4900.00 to £3675.00.

We apologise for any inconvenience this action may cause but trust that you will accept this decision has been taken in both our interests.

................. " and so on!

How long does it normally take for these things to catch up. One because I want the calls/letters to stop, but more importantly I don't want the possibility of being offered further credit, the temptation is too high!

Do these companies often ignore bankrupts, or do they just have really c**p admin systems?

I think fermi has summed up the situation very well.

Their internal software program has gone into overdrive.

  • Thanks people, I thought as much. Stupid companies/banks! Good old Natwest took hours to sort things out in the branch the other day when I tried to withdraw £72 (Child Health Benefit) from my old account. I took the bankruptcy letter about allowing me to withdraw the money, but I don't think that the man believed it was real, and went off to phone the OR's office... 55 minutes later I left with my precious £72! I might change my answer phone message to "I am bankrupt. Number **** of 2007, please leave a message after the tone..."

  • Hi Woopsydaisy,Took a long time for our creditors to get the point as well:rolleyes:
Just file the letters nicely, remind them when they phone you have informed them of your BR and to continue phoning is arrasment and would the person calling please give their full name and position in the company so the OR s office knows who to conntact about it:p.
But Femmi is correct. We have just had a letter from MBNA (we went BR june) to inform OH of what the new terms and interest rates will be on his cc account for 2007/2008:confused: :rotfl: :rotfl:
