            Personalky i would pay off the mortgage, especially with quite a high interest rate, which is also variable so could rise in the next 6 years.
 But i like the thought of being mortgage free

            Being mortgage free would be the option I'd take.
 I assume you're still able to add to your saving pot. Will your remaining savings and income be enough to support your son and all other household affairs with some to spare?
 If yes, then pay off the mortgage I think.0

 I'm leaning toward paying it off.
 I would just leave the payment as is, send it straight to a savings account, to collect up.
 We're OK for Uni being that we're in Scotland.....unless he changes his mind, but l can't see that happening not in the next year or so anyway.
