Closing / Settling mortgage

Recently completed the sale of my old flat and my solicitor cleared the outstanding mortgage account yesterday, which was also the day of my existing direct debit payment.
I suspected there was some overlap / overpayment but in the interest of not causing any confusion I decided to let the payment go through and I would check the balance, expecting a debit balance in my favour. However the mortgage account has now vanished from my online banking
I assume my lender ( Halifax) will automatically send me a cheque or at least write to me with a final statement of account to show any sum due back to me? Or do I have to chase this up?

I'm sure they will refund the payment to you.. However if you want to check why not give them a ring.0

It's possible any refund has gone back to the solicitor - not sure what Halifax's normal practice is.0
