My journey to become debt free

As I don't know a single person on here, I intend to use this as a type of diary I hope that's ok. So after totally burying my head in the sand while going through an emotionally abusive relationship, ignoring debt collectors letters, knocks on the door and pretending everything was OK. I finally looked at my credit file a couple of weeks ago :( I have just over £6000 worth of debt. I'm a single mum of 5 children (please don't judge my first 4 I was with the dad 14yrs and my youngest 9mths, I was with the dad 4 years, I didn't ask to be cheated on, lied to and left when pregnant) I have just finished maternity leave and am on income support, which I am intending on only staying on until my son is 2. I have worked 99% of my adult life and missed so much of my other children growing up, paying childminders to tell me my children walked for the first time, said their first word. This baby I want to see those things myself.
My debts are mainly phone debts, getting contracts out for my ex who then failed to pay me back, payday loans, and store cards.
I will list my debts in a while. And hopefully will be able to sort this mess out and get back some kind of self respect that I used to have. At the moment all I am thankful for is that my mum is no longer around to see this, debt was a really bad thing when we was growing up, sadly to me, hiding from bailiffs and not answering the door has become the norm. :(

Welcome! You can find all kinds of good advice on these boards, from economical recipes to how to keep going when you feel like giving up.

If you read the forum rules, you will see that not judging people is paramount on here, as is being considerate, helpful and polite. MyTwitFace this is not. That is why this is the closest I get to social media: Good, old fashioned good manners. Apparently, the odd troll (are not all trolls odd?) does get through but you can report them with one click of a button.

Good for you for finding this forum and best of luck with everything. And congratulations on your new little one.:T
