Sukhi I think you're taking this too personally. I am not a special case just take a second and read what I have previously said. just because I earn more than the average I am still split paying the same money as you did or any one else.

What I don't agree with is the potential harm this is going to cause potentially my self and others.

Where does this comment about 'most have lived in social housing' come from?

I have never done so, and also never received handouts from family. To be honest, I have never even considered social housing! I was the first in my family to attend university (around 10 years ago now) and took a second job to help fund my living expenses. I required the student loan in order to pay the fees.

I was successful in getting a position as a graduate engineer role, so started on a fairly low salary. My other half was still training as a student nurse and therefore received a small bursary for this. However, we both managed to move in together, to a normal rental property in the South East. We were able to 'live' by not taking big holidays or spending excessively on clothes/entertainment/going out/alcohol/cars/other but it enabled us to save up money towards a deposit.

Ten years down the line we have 1 child, with another on the way, but my other half is currently a full-time mum so we are managing to survive on just my salary (which still isn't high). It can be done, and not everyone relies on social housing.

However if we went for it at the time, we'd have been rather more well off!

You earn far more than the average, you have chosen to have the luxury of children, and yet you want me and other taxpayers to pay your rent?

That's effectively what is happening. It's not sustainable for everyone to be subsidised - where would you draw the line? The top 50% earners should subsidise the bottom 50%?

We should all fund the bottom 25% in terms of income?

I earn about the same as you. I couldn't afford children. I can't afford a house. I wouldn't apply for a council house because I can pay private rental, and council housing should be for those who NEED it, not those who WANT it, like you.

Sorry I don't see it as taking it oersonally. If you look at my posting history I only give my experience

So no I'm really not taking it personally and tbh I'm not even really pointing a finger at you, just pointing out that raises in rent and mortgages do happen for every one and that's why it's so important to have wiggle room in finances. Everyone in debt, be they social or private tenants are at the whim of the landlord and those who have a mortgage are at the whim of mortgage rates.

Once again if you personally are concerned that these increases will put you under, get your SOA sorted and let's get those outgoings down

Anyone who voted for the current government, who reads or watches murdoch-owned/directed/influenced ''news'' is buying into all Lynton Crosby fuelled campaigns, of which this was just another one, bruited since last year's woeful election.

Ozcrosby's complete Goldsmith failure in the London Mayoralty election is one small rebuff against the onslaught of which your situ, op, is exemplar.

Sadly, it is one among many that the Tories have lined up for the next 4 years.

The trumpery and assault on the Articles of Housing Associations and their intended cast-iron legal framework was an early target in last year's tory campaign and will continue, just another warped goal which will, in fact, be selfdefeating.

My good wishes to you all - your wife in her studies and your children in family happiness and 'light the blue touch-paper' teachers.

Also, simply ignore any 'comparison' posts here.

No, you haven't. You have merely posted a series of rambling and disjointed complaints which boil down to "It's not fair" and "I deserve more than this"

Well, sorry pal, others are more deserving than you; and frankly, life ain't fair. There will always be someone better off than you, and there's usually someone worse off than you - that's kind of how averages work.

Furthermore, the fluffy idea that "you can achieve anything you want" just isn't true. Yes, hard work does play a role, but so do circumstances, opportunities, luck, skill, family background etc. I'll never run the 100 meters in under 10 seconds, so why should I get an Olympic gold medal? Just because I tried really, reeeeaaalllly hard?!? No - no-one thinks that. So will I get the top job just because I stay late at work (and don't surf MSE when I'm supposed to be working!) - no, for the same reasons!

Society is unlikely to ever evolve into the Marxist ideology of everyone equally working together for the common good, as individuals will always be greedy and selfish, as your complaints illustrate.

I missed the part about midwifery. Is she therefore not receiving a bursary? This is meant to help towards travel costs, etc?

puddy I took on a child when I was 18. it was my choice and a choice I do not regret one bit..
i'd gladly and always pay the price for my children.

I've lived in council houses my whole life, not through entitlement but why would I move if they let me stay there at a lesser rent. I can't recall the last time the council phoned me up said do you deserve to live in one of our houses.

you shouldnt focus on me primarily but if you have to take a target suit your self.

however I will fight against this as it is not fair.

I am not the top 50%. it's pretty simple I want what's best for me.. regardless of opinion. I am not the gatekeeper of the rent to be paid or the suitability but if you read the articles I posted about it states the cuts are not in line with other thresholds set by the government. the threshold used to be 100k. the government set everything recently to 85k but why social housing to 30-40k bracket to intentionally catch people.. they obviously have a clear idea.

Family of four bringing in less than £37k a year and not in social housing. We are both in debt but paying it down.
Social housing isn't what it was. It's not for everyone or the deserving it's been scrapped back to just being for those in need. This government has destroyed every socialist institution in this country.

    That's the crux.

I think a lot of people were taken aback to hear that Bob Crowe on 140K (I think?) was still living in his council house. People (wrongly) assumed that cheaper council housing was used by lower earners. Wrong ! You can earn 500K pa and if you've got council housing, you keep it.

So there's support for 'higher' earners paying a bigger whack of their rent. You can argue about the 'ceiling' but all ceilings are arbitrary.

And yes, it will disincentive. Always will and always has. I remember 30 years ago, neighbours turning down overtime because they'd have to pay a bigger % of their rent themselves. People aren't muppets.
