Farther on State Pension and Pension Credit and now going into a home.

Options
My father revives a state penSion and pension credits, he is now going into a home and the home says he has to pay £200 to the bill of the care which isn't an issue. But I've been told by relatives he will loose all his pension income, is that correct?

If the local authority is paying for his care, he will be allowed a weekly amount of £23 (unless it's gone up in the last couple of years).

All the rest of his income will go towards the care home costs.

    If he's self-funding, that doesn't apply.

So all his pension money will go to the care home?

My mother in law is in a home and the DWP staff member went to see her at the home and did her application, she gets full Pension and Pension credit.

State Pension is unaffected by going into residential care, I am not sure about pension credit.

If the local council are meeting all or part of the cost then his pension will be taken into account when they do an assessment.

So he doesn't 'lose it" but he is expected to use it to pay for his care which seems eminently reasonable.
