I don't qualify for flat rate job expenses?

I've been with the NHS for a few months now. I am a ward clerk and filled in a uniform form with my measurements when I joined. I then found out that only female ward clerks (and similar administrative and clerical roles) wear a uniform and males have to provide their own shirts, trousers and shoes. On this year's first pay slip I have a £60 flat rate job expenses allowance. After calling HMRC for a different issue, they asked about this allowance and have now removed it because I don't wear a uniform. Is this right? The clothes are my own but I only wear them for work purposes and I have to wash them myself. If I was female, I would be given the full uniform and the allowance would definitely be added.
I'm not saying this is wrong, just wanted to hear some opinions.

no need for opinions as the facts are correct:
- you do not wear a uniform as defined in the rules (ie permanent logo affixed to each item such that anyone seeing you in the street would regard you as being someone wearing a recognisable uniform). Your own clothes do not count no matter how "work related" you regard that fashion
- as for sex discrimination, take it up with your union0 -

If you're wearing your own clothes then no you don't get a uniform allowance. Not sure why sex matters you could wear the clothes provided to the women if you wish and I'm not sure why anyone in administrative or clerical roles without front line customer contact gets a uniform allowance either. A ward clerk would normally have customer contact and be expected to wear the corporate clothing. That's something you would need to take up with your employer.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
