But for a small minority of cyclists who deem it beneath them to use such infrastructure.

(The same small minority who deem traffic lights as beneath them etc)

This is very true. I've spend a fair bit of time in Denmark over the past year and huge numbers of people ride bikes. It is safe because everywhere, even in the centre of Copenhagen, there are cycle lanes that are separate from the road traffic.

That video is pretty much the answer to every 'why don't cyclists use the cycle paths' comment ever. Only saw 2-3 bikes on the main road, and they appeared to be turning into a side road out of shot.
