Hi,
Can anyone recommend a builder to repoint the mortar on my house?
Thanks in advance.

Is it an older house or a modern one ?
Older stone houses are a lot more complicated to repoint as they tended to use lime additives in the original mortar and the stones are obviously not aligned straight.
I am looking into this myself for the South and West exposure of my house due to damp coming through during our monsoon season Mine would be 16 years old but I have found the mortar very sandy like most modern builds
I was roughly quoted £1000 per exposure for my 2 storey house. By hiring scaffolding, buying a grinder myself and mixing my own ration mortar I think I can do a cheaper and possibly better job
Plenty of repointing videos on youtube for help.
let me know if you get any reasonable quotes as it my save me a weeks workI am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -

Completely agree. Nothing difficult about repointing. It's time consuming and mind-numbingly boring. Might as well save a thousand quid and do it yourself.0 -
I've been quoted £3500 and that is not the whole house!!
Thanks for the replies I'll keep looking as I won't do it myself.Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0 -
Have you tried rated people?0

I am interested in repointing areas of our house too. The previous owners did it with silicone!!
How would I remove the silicone, or would i be better sticking mortar over it?0 -

Definately remove the silicone before repointing. Silicone is relatively easily removed with a thin paint scraper, harder stuff my need a grinder.
If your existing mortar is quiet sandy like mine is I would also grind it out first before applying new mortar. I had considered hiring a grinder but then saw this for £25 with excellent reviews for mortar scrapping

It would cost more to hire one for a week :eek:I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -

I'm going to buy that or the 9 inch one.
Going to give it a go putting down granite setts for my patio. This will come in handy.0 -
