Looking for old BR2189 pension booklets

Hi guys,

This is a re post as I initially posted it in the wrong place...

Odd request I imagine, but I'm looking to get hold of old copies of the governments pension booklet "BR2189" normally followed by a date code, current one being BR2189 02/16. I think it comes every year with a pension statement.
I'm looking for copies between 2001 and 2009. Cant seem to find anything online at all. I just need one from that time period.
If anyone has one stashed away at home I would be very grateful for a scan or copy.

Thanks, Adam.

The 2002 version seems to have caused a certain amount of confusion..

Have you tried contacting the DWP and/or the National Archives?

Hi, I've gotten as far as checking both their websites but no sign of what i need.

A little background as to why I'm looking for these, maybe someone will be able to help without the booklets....

between 2001 and 2009 my dad was claiming extra pension for my mum who was not yet at pension age. Under the rules she was allowed to work and earn a certain amount each year without affecting this payment.
I remember her being very careful about this, to the point that when her wages would go up she would have to drop hours to keep under the limit.
These limits she has written down in diaries from the time period in question which she says she got from the BR2189 booklet.
I'm sure you can see where this is going.. The DWP have recently written to her saying she was earning too much in this period and that they want the extra pension money back. they have quoted maximum earning figures in the letter but they don't match the ones my mum wrote down.

my mums figures are out but by consistent amounts, she thinks it may have been to do with my dad been born before a certain year but isn't sure.

I cant imagine how she came to the figures and obviously shes quite stressed about it all.

So that's why I'm trying to get hold of at least one booklet from this era so i can try and figure out whats happened. She must have gotten her numbers from somewhere because they seem to change with the numbers quoted by the DWP.

Any help on this would be regretfully received.

If you are talking about pension credit, there is a history of rates here: http://adviser.royallondon.com/pensions/technical-central/rates-and-factors/pension-credit/. Pension credit replaced the Minimum Income Guarantee in 2003, I couldn't find the rate for that.

Think they are talking about Adult Dependency increase payable with State Pension. I do have benefit rates from 2001 in my desk at work, I can check and see if it give details about any limits on income and try and post on my break

    2001 and 2002

    2003-04

See examples above - the rates are available through the archive.

You need to type Benefit and Pension Rates and then the year into Google- it takes you to a benefit uprating PDF and right at the end to a link to a press release which takes you to the archive.
  • Thanks xylophone, those documents have what I need I think.

looks like my mum just got the figures wrong somehow :( . The consistency that she did it is bizarre though, between 2005 and 2009 for example the figures she had written down were all exactly £12.68 greater than the real ones... I just cant imagine how she got to them.

Thanks for all your help and quick replies everyone, much appreciated
