PAYG Credit Card

I saw someone mention this the other day and as I am an online shopper most of the time this would be something I'd be interested in... anyone tell me where I can find one and how it works??

Thanks! :)

  • There are a few about, check out http://www.moneysupermarket.com/cards/prepaid-cards-guide1.asp

We looked at that and decided to go with the SplashPlastic one :)

They work in a shop or online like a debit or credit card, but you can only spend what you have put on them, like a pre pay mobile phone. You can top them up at Paypoint places as well as the post office and from your bank account.
  • Hi

I got one, I went for the Virgin prepay mastercard. it seems quite a good deal. I paid £9.95 to get the card, and to put money on it is free if you do with a debit card from a bank account, or from a post office counter. If you do it via paypoint it costs about 3% of the amount you put on it. There is no ongoing monthly fee but you pay about 3% (or just under) each time you use it to make a payment. I have found it very useful to pay on the odd few sites that dont take a Solo card or Paypal. - Hope this helps. There is a website -

    Hope this is helpful.

    Have a look at www.mycashplus.co.uk

I have had one of these for a month or so now and am very happy with it!

If you wanted to, you can even have your salary paid onto it via payroll and the BACS system.
  • Hi! Try the BREAD card (google it-it also won an award as being best for fees, etc on the travel supermarket site)-it's MAESTRO & can be used on-line. The mycashplus is also the best (in my opinion) of the credit cards-it's a mastercard-if you only use it save once/twice a month you have the option to pay a quid or so (forget the exact ammt) per transaction-rather than a fee per month. I use both & they are great! Don't forget-you can open a Co-Op cashminder bank a/c-this comes with visa electron.
  • I have just ordered a pay as you go Virgin Credit Card, as my OH opt'd for this one

I used to use Splash Plastic until I got a Citibank account - I'm not bankrupt, but my credit rating is diabolical at the moment, and they still accepted me. The account comes with a proper debit card which is accepted online (not a visa electron, but a full debit card). I'm not sure if they accept bankrupts, but I think they do.

Now I've got that account I use it for almost everything - it's much easier than needing to remember to top up the card, and there's no fee for transactions.

Citibank were offering those accounts to ex-bankrupts and people with poor credit ratings earlier this year.

But from the experiences of people on this and other forums, they appear to have put a stop to this now. People with a poor credit rating are now mostly refused.

Thanks guys, I have no idea which one to go for now... have looked at all the different ones and the fees have confused me, so will maybe take another look tomorrow! :)
  • Hi all

I opted for a Ministry Of Sound Maestro card as i only have a basic cash card at the moment!

Good thing about it is there are no monthly fee's and the payment rates are very good!! Also as I dont even have a solo I used my texts from my mobile to register and they sent me my cool looking card within about 2 weeks!!

Look at www.prepay.ministryofsound.com or type in ministry of sound maestro into google

    hope this helps
