Sole mortgage application

Hi all
Looking for some advice as at my wits end at the moment.
Had an offer accepted on a property recently, then applied for a mortgage through a broker and it went all the way through the application, even as far as having the survey done, but then was rejected due to the financial association with my wife. I have a 5% deposit.
My credit file is excellent (above 960 on Experian) and I am the main earner in our household. The wifes credit file shows a DRO taken 5 years ago and for that reason I wanted to apply for the mortgage on my own.
Are there any lenders in the market place that will only look at me rather than a joint application. We do not have joint bank accounts and I assume that the financial association is only in place due to having joint names on the council tax and one or two utility bills.
This has now been rolling on for almost a month and I am getting regular phone calls from the estate agent asking what is happening, having to fob them off with excuses that I am waiting info from the broker etc. I am almost at the stage of pulling the plug on the sale but this house is perfect for us and more than affordable using my wage alone so we do not want to let it go without exploring all avenues.
Thanks in advance
