Mortgage companies and probation periods

Hi,

We are thinking of relocating within the UK but are worried about having to rent at a high cost for 12 months to complete a probation period at work to then get a mortgage.

Are there any mortgage companies that will still mortgage a house if i stay within the local government sector? Or is it what im expecting and it being a straight no?

any help or advice appreciated

Depending on what your credit file looks like there are lenders out there that will accept your income even if you are on a probationary period.

You can request Consent to Let from your existing lender. This will allow you time to see if the move is going to work out.

I have just applied for a mortgage through Nationwide. Our application was sent off last Tuesday. I am just over three months into a six month probation period and nothing was flagged up at the application point about it. Of course it is now with the underwriters who might still flag it up but it's not be an issue so far.

We went with nationwide, both in employment ~6 months, both had completed our probation periods but this wasn't even asked about.

Given that you can't do anything about unfair dismissal until you have been there 2 years, probation periods are pretty meaningless anyway.
