Hi All,
OH is in distress and going home from work this afternoon to try to sort this out (flogging a dead horse I think but he can't concentrate).
Anyway, he has letters telling him that he has no arrears (he has been down the Chief Exec / MP route before). He had a 2 letters last month telling him that he owed different amounts and that they would start taking arrears off him immediately. They said they were entitled to and if it was proved to be incorrect then he would get his money back. He asked for a full account breakdown (again!!) As nothing was taken out we assumed that things were OK etc etc.
He's rang again this morning and was told the deduction of earning was know done and from next month nearly £100 more will be taken each month.
How can they do this? He's at his wits end and to make matter worse they now say he owes even more - he can't possibly!!! He has always paid what has been asked.
We have a baby on the way and they don't seem to care and they also said that they can take up to 40% off his pay if they want - we though it was a max of 30%?
Any advice appreciated - I'm sure others have been in the same position.
p.s - this has been going on since 2003
Thanks for listening

Join NACSA they are brilliant at helping people in similar situations. Whilst it costs I think 40 quid for a year's membership, it is honestly well worth it. NO, I don't work for them, but they are taken seriously by the CSA and other bodies. www.nacsa.org.uk
The max that they can take is 40% including arrears but 30% for a normal assessment so what they are saying is correct in that respect. If you want to pm me with details of your current assessment I can check to see if it is correct for a start.
Have they provided you with the account breakdown yet? THis is a really important piece of info that you need. Have they said from what period these arrears are for? What they may have done in the past is to suspend arrears as they cannot legally write them off. Later on, they can reinstate them.0
