Delay repay system

Hi,

Last month I bought a train ticket to go down to London for the purposes of weighing in the night before for a martial arts competition. This meant I could have some food and relax before the competition the day before.

Due to the frankly incomprensible ticket system the only ticket that made sense was the one which made I must get a certain train. Unfortunately this train was delayed by at least 40 minutes which meant I couldn't make the weigh in.

I was slightly impressed by the mention of delay repay.

As I normally drive I wasn't aware of this. I submitted a claim with a photo of my ticket.

They now say the photo of the ticket isn't clear enough. Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to find the ticket and the phone I took the photo on has since died.

What irritates me slightly though is they know I paid for a ticket - I have an email reciept for this. I have an email thanking me for using their wi-fi, which proves on balance of probabilities I was on the train.

They know the train was delayed as there were numerous announcements and I had to see a dude at the other end to allow me through the barrier as he had a list of delayed trains.

It now seems when the conductor said we encourage you to claim he should've said you can try to claim but we'll use any excuse to weasel out of paying.

It isn't even a lot of money but what puzzles me is this. The entire transaction, apart from me printing off the physical tickets, was done online. They already have my name address and card details why do passengers even have to jump through these hoops?

Oveall not impressed. Leave the car at home and relax they say.

Arrive late, get gipped on the delay repay claim and have the joy of purchasing a horrendously expensive ticket was my experience. I think I'll just drive next time.

I do wonder why you bothered to send a photograph of a ticket that wasn't clear enough.

Did you not think of ensuring you had a clear picture before you sent it?

If you travelled with the same company you booked with, I'd be very surprised if they did not accept a clear screenshot showing the booking confirmation. You can find this in your online account.

(It's difficult to give comprehensive advice because we don't know what the image you sent in looks like, nor do we know what the journey was, or what train company it was with)
