I have today recieved a letter from my mortgage company saying that they hadn't recieved a payment (the first payment to be made) due to an administrative error on their part. They also say that they have previously sent me a letter (which I haven't recieved, but whatever) and as I didn't respond, they're going to charge me £20. They also want me to pay the outstanding amount by debit card.
Where do I stand on this? I honestly didn't notice that they hadn't taken the first payment until very recently and was going to contact them about it, but this arrived first. I can pay the amount they want, but can only do it by cheque as it would be coming from an account that I don't have a card for.
Any answers would be welcome.
Thanks,
Emma

I'd tell 'em what you just told us and send the cheque. What other options do you have?0
