Internet explorer 7 "Connect Automatically" won't work?

Help required.
On start up of internet explorer 7 the connection box appears. I tick the box "Connect Automatically" then hit Connect and get connected. After disconnecting the box clears itself. Does anyone know how to get it to stop doing this?
It used to be OK till I changed from Tiscali broadband to TalkTalk and also at the same time I had to use my Windows XP recovery disc due to my computer crashing while installing the TalkTalk CD.

Thanks

  • In IE7, click Tools - Internet Options - Connections tab - Never dial a connection. OK and restart IE.

If that doesn't fix it, click Setup on Connections tab and go through the New Connection wizard. You want the 'manual connection' and 'always on' options.

Also, why are you disconnecting? Broadband is always on, meaning you don't have to connect or disconnect.
  • Thanks for the reply.
I tried your first solution but that resulted in the connect box not coming up at all and thus explorer would only run off line.
Will try the other one soon.
Discovered that I am actually running IE6 I must have lost IE7 due to the crash caused by the talktalk CD. So when I get time (and I am a bit scared of doing updates now so I need lots of time) I will upgrade to IE7 and go from there.
In answer to you queary. I was advised that leaving my computer permantly connected to the internet was a security risk (more time for hackers to find me or something) so I disconect when I don't need the internet. Also I am not wireless and turn off my computer when I'm not using it.
