discrimination being Disabled

I have been disabled for many yrs.i applied for a mortgage 11 yrs ago.i was in formed that people like my self on benefits has to have an interest only.last yri was informed by the DSS,that i would have to put money towards my mortgage.i recently putthe property on the market,as its not suitable.that was when i found out, about savings.I was not told i needed to save.
i have now found a suitable property in scotland.so i made enquries about a mortgage.I was called a liar several times ,buy 1 advisor, another said people like me,cannot be trusted, and i have no right to my own home.
i have never been in debt, and i feel devistated.i have till aug to move, and i really do not want social housing.yet this property i would like to buy is ideal.

Not a recommendation, but this firm is the only one I know working with the disabled on home ownership.

I believe it still involves interest-only as the state will not help with capital payments, so you can only build equity through house price inflation;-

However, the shared ownership rent and service charges can be met by housing benefit/local housing allowance and the mortgage interest remains covered by the SMI scheme.

I'm not sure what your question is.

Regards interest only, your memory may be playing tricks, what state benefits will not do is pay towards you buying a house,so if you have a mortgage and are on benefits, benefits can only be used to pay the interest, and not the repayments, because the repayments are buying the house. Each pound of repayment that isn't interest is a pound that is taken off your loan.

I don't know what you mean about not being told about saving.do you mean for a deposit ? If so then yes everyone needs a deposit, housing benefits won't pay that.

I think the problem is you have a very limited understanding of mortgages and the benefit systems so are running under the misapprehension that what's going on is discrimination against you. AFAIK it's the same for everyone so there is no discrimination against disabled people in that respect.

I don't know the context of you being called a liar etc so can make no comment on that.

As has been stated, you can't claim housing benefit to pay off a mortgage, only to pay the interest (and that is difficult sometimes). Hence you are being pushed to interest only, as even if someone gave you a repayment mortgage, you'd struggle to pass affordability.

This is the same for anyone on benefits, it is not disability discrimination.

You will have to put money towards the mortgage though - if you just stay on interest only forever you will eventually have to sell it to pay off the mortgage, so you may as well just rent a house.

You have no savings, your only income is state benefits, so you will struggle to buy a home, that's not because you are disabled, it's because you do not have the funds.

Nobody has a "right" to own their own home, more and more people are renting and will be for life. Social housing may well be better for you, if you own a house on an interest only mortgage that will never be yours (as the mortgage won't go away!!) how are you going to manage if the house needs major work doing?

Social housing may well be the best option for you.
