I bought one last year, a vax, but to be honest I don't see any difference from using a mop and bucket ... I suppose from a hygiene point of view using steam to clean is more hygienic but it doesn't do any better than a mop and elbow greasewading through the treacle of life!

I too have been considering one. My ground floor is either marble (kitchen) or a good quality wood laminate, but I am concerned that the steaming process will be too harsh, so I would welcome others' experience.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

I use one and it is better if you prefer the floor to be dry quickly so good for pets and kids, It does say not to add any cleaner to it and only use water but I add cleaner in mine with no adverse effects just to get a smell from the floor after.0

My daughter has one, and when I was helping her with her housework I used it to steam clean her wooden floor and laminate. I sprayed the floor with cleaner, rather than putting anything in the water.
I didn't find it dried very quickly. Also, if you have pets, where the hair is on the floor, it gets sort of squished up together around the mop head. I suppose I could have hoovered the floor first, only just thought of that!! The hair tends to go into stringy long bits, which you have to either try and scoop up with the mop, or get it with kitchen roll.
I wash my floors at home with some spray and kitchen roll, on my hands and knees. We have tiles in the kitchen and wooden floors in the dining room. My daughter suggested getting a steam cleaner, but I wouldn't want one.0 -
we use one on wooden floors and kitchen & bathroom tiled floors. Dry much faster than mopping, the dirt on the pads shows they work, floors clean and sanitised easily. I also steam clean oven racks and grill pans when I do the oven (infrequently I must admit)Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0

I always vac before steam cleaning or mopping, otherwise you're just moving the muck around! I like my steamer. I have tennis elbows both sides, so elbow grease isn't an option."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

I bought one last year and have been very disappointed (it's a Vax) and I'm not sure that it's down to the brand. I have a very hard time pushing it about, I can often wipe an area afterwards and still find it fairly dirty and I'm not thrilled about dragging a cord along with me, lol
As it happens I've been looking this past week for a 'spray mop' because I don't really want to deal with a bucket either. The Vileda one is catching my attention....0
