Notice period

Hi

I have a dilemma

I am looking to sell our house and move to another country
We have an offer and have had an offer accepted on the new property and have started all the legal process etc

At my work the notice period for my level is 3 months (this is aimed more at every other person my level due to head hunting) for my role, I do a different job that isn’t comparable in the headhunting respect, nevertheless the fact remains my notice period is 3 months, I cannot request a 3 month between exchange and completion, the best I can ask for is 4 weeks

I have been here over 2 years and do a good job (based on appraisals and bonus payments)

Do I take the risk of giving notice now and face the disaster that would occur if the house transaction fell through or do I get to exchange and then give 4 weeks notice regardless

Any advice welcome

Your moving abroad, there's not a lot your employer can do to you if you leave early.

    (just being practical about it)

In that case could you lodge somewhere for 2 months for work and be home at weekends?

I'd be very concerned about offering in Scotland with a different legal system when your own sale could fall through. You could land liable for a lot of money.

Try to negotiate the 3 months down by mutual agreement to protect your reference and current standing. You may find 6 weeks ors acceptable to your employer. Do they know you are thinking on moving to Scotland?
