Not in the UK, no. It is too far away from applying to me for it to trouble me unduly.

The thing with the settlement under US law, as it has been explained to me at least, is that the settlement means that 'employees', Uber and the legal system under the terms of the settlement all agree that Uber's 'employees' are independent contractors. As a result they can't band together to set prices as that is a cartel and illegal.

I wonder how that is different to official cabs for particular cities having a meter which sets the price but all the drivers being self employed? There doesn't seem to be much difference to me but presumably the DoJ won't be busting the cartel of NY taxi drivers.

I think Uber doesn't see their workforce as part of a long term relationship

Uber will overcome all legal issues I imagine, the service they provide is just too good. Anyone who has used uber will know, a service like that deserves to exist because it's a life changing way to travel the world.

Uber is simply the best way to get around most cities.

Give it time, more people that try it, more people will fall in love with it and more laws will be made to accommodate the simple concept of the world not needing 100'000 fat controllers to sit in 100'000 dingy offices whilst fibbing endlessly to angry customers at 3am that the taxi is 'on its way' when it's plainly not and always requesting freebies from poor fellow taxi drivers to obtain the next decent job - which inevitably is all paid for by the end user.

The joy of not having to speak to the fat controlller ever again is worth it on its own. The joy of seeing your taxi moving on a map is also great. The joy of no end-of-journey financial wrangling, ever again, heavenly for both parties. No worry that customers will do a run and not paying, ever again, so calming. No expectation of a tip, so refreshing. All anyone wanting is five star feedback which creates a really friendly journey - a really nice touch.

They didn't make an app, they reinvented the whole taxi experience.

If uber wanted to introduce a complete free market system where different taxi's can offer different prices because of legal issues, I imagine they would be able to do to it right now at the flick of a switch.

However right now their Humongous legal team have advised against the need to do this and no doubt for uber this will work out just fine.

Proudly voted remain. A global union of countries is the only way to commit global capital to the rule of law.

The only problem I have with Uber is that the service isn't yet available nationwide. Whenever I need a taxi in Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester or London it's my only port of call. So, so easy and huge ticks in all the boxes mentioned above.
