Nobody wants to address the thorny issue of what these tens of millions of young people will actually do.

BHS youngsters/descendents might want to give retail the swerve.

as I'm sure you have read on these boards many times from the 'remain camp', immigrants generate their own demand and hence jobs : that's why unemployment is a technical impossibly in any society that has immigration.

Before you gave up on economics and became an EU acolyte, the issue of immigration and employment would be a discussible item.

As those ex-BHS employees will tell you, it's important to keen one eye on the future.

BHS failed to adapt; it sounds like it was underfunded for a good number of years; and it's demise was all but inevitable. We went in to a local BHS last year, and recently we have been appliance shopping in John Lewis. The difference in retail experience could not be more marked.

UK plc will also need to adapt.

Speaking of the future, I think this will change the nature of work :

Interacting with online computer services is set to become a whole heap easier, and our need for basic human support less.

Acceptance is usually one of the biggest blockers to change. Devices like Siri have made communicating by voice with computers much more acceptable.

they only run out of money by simple bad accounting unless they are made enough to join a currency union.....

On the contrary, Greece managed to previously default on its debts in 1826, 1843, 1860, 1894 and 1932 without any assistance whatsover from a 'currency union'.

P.S. Every deadbeat debtor who defaults blames "bad accounting".:)

I agree that change will come and those who adapt will make the most of it.
However compared with what people were doing centuries ago or even decades - cleaning chimneys, working at the coal face, then I don't think we need to be pessimistic about the future.

Anything is discussable. It makes little point to there being a discussion at all as you seem to have both sides of the conversation covered.

I am really confused. Is it the EU's fault that BHS failed?
