Opt back In to Working Timed Dikrective

Help Anybody
I gave my employer (a security company) 1 months notice of my right to opt back in to the WTD to reduce my working hours to 48.(I currently work a rotating shift pattern of 7 on/4 Off - 7 On/3 Off and each shift is 12 hours) There was no specified notified notice period when I Opted Out and I thought that a month was more than enough to find cover for my reduction in shifts
We informally agreed a change to 4On/4 Off, again 12 hour shifts.
At the end of the notice period my employer has told me that he cannot provide cover and cannot implement a change to my hours.
He is effectively forcing me to stay Opted Out.
Do I have to comply or can I just inform him that I just do 4 days of the next 7 day shift he wants me to work
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Security companies have additional flexibility in terms of the WTD. So there are slightly different ways in which they can operate. For example, if he is saying that he can't cover your shifts on a temporary basis and therefore needs more time to do so, this would be grounds to delay a change. Alternatively, if he is saying that there are business reasons why the change cannot be made, if those grounds can stand up to scrutiny, you could find yourself redundant.
You need to find out exactly why the change cannot be made. It does sound, from what you have said, that the employer was not opposed to the principle of reducing your hours since they agreed it - so there has to be something that has come up that has changed their minds.
If you simply do not work when you are expected to, then you could be facing a disciplinary or dismissal.0 -
48 hours a week would be 12 shifts in 3 weeks - rather than the 14 you are currently doing - the 48 is usually averaged over 17 weeks, which gives your employer a lot of scope for how he can reduce your hours. So no, you can't just stop after 48 in the first week.
Also do your 12 hours shifts include off duty breaks (eg lunch)? But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Thanks for the responses. I will follow your advice and work as scheduled but how long should I give them? They've already had a month0

Thanks for your responses. I will stop being Grumpy and work as scheduled.
12 hours includes 2 x 20 minute breaks.

How long should you give them - can you please answer the question, what is the reason they are saying this?
And BTW - how long have you worked there?0 -
I thought that security guards were one of the exempted roles for WTD.Never Knowingly Understood.
