State Pension

Default Paying NICs
Hi

I have only paid 14 (qualifying) years NICs as I have stayed at home looking children. My NI record shows that I can back pay up to 9 years of NICs.

As my wife is a high earner we do get child benefit and therefore NI credits do not apply.

What are my options to get the full state pension? Pay all of the missed years and carry on paying thereafter? Or will HM Revenue look at the contributions my wife has made and transfer these to me?

Thanks for any help
S

No. Not unless there's a hugely unlikely upheaval in the rules.

Why are you not receiving NI credits ? You are still entitled to them even if you do not get CB due to high earnings. http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/pensions/article-2368591/Make-sure-child-benefit-changes-doesnt-affect-state-pension.html

Who is listed as receiving the Child Benefit for the children? If it is you, you would receive NI credit for the years. As molerat wrote, high income blocks payment of CB but not the entitlement to NI credits.

If you can't get to 35 years after allowing for years of NI credits from Child Benefit and possible future work then you should consider buying past years.

Hi, can you claim NI credits retrospectively?
    Thanks

I've just found this on Gov.uk site

You want to transfer credits from a spouse or partner who got Child Benefit for a child under 12 - between 6 April 2010 and now
Apply to transfer Class 3 credits between parents

You want to transfer credits from a spouse or partner who got Child Benefit for a child under 16 - before 6 April 2010
Apply to transfer HRP - to transfer Class 3 credits between parents

I'll give that a go first.

    Thanks for previous help
