Hello n00b here
when applying online for a tsb classic plus account recently i was surprised at the end of the online form filling that i was required to visit a branch with my passport and proof of where i lived. thats all fine i guess but i dont think i saw them mention that anywhere until it came to the last page of filling on all the details.
However lets say when opening an account in a smaller bank with less branches such as Al Rayan and I wanted to open a fixed term deposit account and not a current account with them is there still such a requirement to visit a branch when applying online?
As I recall there was no such requirement to visit a branch when i opened isa's with various places over the years.
So i'm wondering is it just with current accounts they require you to make a visit in branch?

It all depends on whether you pass or fail their electronic ID checks.
If you pass then this all is done automatically in the background and no further action is required.
If you fail then you will be required to provide paper personal ID and address ID
This might either be
1 Visiting a local branch with the originals as requested
2. Providing via post certified copies of the required documents.
In the case of 2 the notes will tell you which people are allowed to sign and certify the documents copies as true copies or the originals which they have inspected.0 -
ah i see. i should also add that i'm a non eu foreigner in the uk as well and not on the electoral roll so that also probably 'helped' me fail these online checks.0

Yes, Mrs AnotherJoe signed up for a TSB Plus account this week, all online took about 10 minutes, no visit needed.0

The TSB Classic Plus account is not a 'deposit savings account', despite the fact that many of us use it as such.
It is a current account, which means that you could become overdrawn. So instead of a simple ID search, which would be performed if you applied for an Al Rayan or other bank's deposit account, a credit search would have been done.0
