Mortgages and marriage query

Hello,
I had an initial appointment with our broker this morning to see what we could do with a 10% deposit. For a couple of reasons which will become clear, we were planning that the new mortgage would be just in my name and based on my salary. However, it appears that because we are married, my husband has to be named on the mortgage as a dependent - he is actually earning almost the same as me, but the fact that he is on a fixed term contract at the moment means we can't take into account his income and contribution to expenditure. He's quite a lot older than me and including him almost halves the term we could get a mortgage for. Altogether this makes pretty much anything unviable. It seems hugely unfair; can anyone offer any crumbs of hope? We're not first-time buyers, if that makes any difference.

If your husband isn't working. Then he is financially dependent on you. Assume you are renting at the moment. So the deposit saved is coming from joint funds. Which results in your husband having a financial interest in the property.
While your husband is working save like made to increase the size of the deposit.0 -
It depends on the lender right? I heard Barclays would do a single app even though married but someone like Kensington would require both husband and wife to be added.0

Thanks both for replying. Deposit is coming from sale of house we have a joint mortgage on.
Broker rang back later and it seems Natwest can deal with this situation; just have to cross fingers for acceptability now.0
