... However I was looking round my local store today , and it wasnt running.
Has anyone seen it running in-store ?
Yes. And used it as well.
Based on my experience, Waitrose stores often 'forget' to put up the correct SELs for special offers. But if the deal is on Waitrose.com, it will be available in store.
Tip - sign up for the Waitrose self scanning option. Scan a product that you think is part of special offer, and it will bleep and confirm the details if you're right.0 -
Having read last week's MSE newsletter, my wife and I headed off to our local Waitrose store to avail ourselves of the "5 Frozen Items for £6" offer. Listed on MSE and other discount sites as being available online and in store.
The frozen counter was devoid of any such offer; CS was clueless but they spoke to the aisle manager who said she knew nothing about it.
We wrote to Waitrose Feedback and this morning got a response to tell us that they had spoken to the store, and the offer was for online customers only!!
We had to go shopping anyway, so armed with a copy of the relevant webpage and a QuickPay scanner, we headed off to the frozen counter, scanned a bag of frozen peas and up came "5 Frozen Items for £6".
I have sent Waitrose Feedback a scanned copy of our till receipt pointing out that this isn't the first time that the scanner has picked up on offers not showing up in store counter displays. Given the recent CMA report into supermarket offers, we would have hoped that management might be more alert to these sort of issues. My feedback has now been escalated to the Promotions Team Management.
The moral her is: if you see a Waitrose offer on this or other discount shopping websites, print out a copy of the Waitrose offers webpage and use a scanner. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Update:
After receiving a response from Waitrose that this offer was available only to online customers, I have now received a further response:
Quote: it's only advertised online but it will trigger through our tills to anybody (knowingly or unknowingly) that purchases the applicable products in-branch. This is due to our tills all working on the same system regardless of whether you shop in-branch or online. Therefore, in simplistic terms, this means that if you see an offer online, you could still take advantage of it in-branch (albeit it won’t be advertised) as long as you pick up the qualifying items.
The reason this is the case is largely due to the volume of offers and promotions we have running at any one time, and the number of items that can be part of any one promotion, meaning it’s simply not practical to have them all displayed in-branch. It is, however, far more practical to have them all displayed on Waitrose.com as we’re not limited by the likes of space or layout, and can be organised far more logically. Unquote
The above policy seems to be plain daft to me as the whole point of offers is to encourage people to shop in a particular Supermarket. Moreover, this very cleverly thought out marketing strategy discriminates against those who do not have internet access and those who elect not to use a scanner. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Totally agree - and thank you for your efforts. Will be going back in today to make a purchase ( or maybe two) . Wonder how many offers I have missed over the years

Thanks Hengus for checking this out. I went and got some yesterday. First time I have used the self scan. I will definitely self scan my shops now so I don't miss any offers. It seems ridiculous!0
