Help, severance of tenancy

I wondered if anyone could help with this matter?
My partner previously owned a property with his ex partner, who through her solicitors applied for 'severance of joint tenancy' them now being 'tenants in common. However he was misled into what he was signing by his partner (he didn't have a solicitor therefore signed it willingly from home), he thought he was signing into a share of 50/50 him taking his share and her taking hers when the property sells. He presumed the deed stating his partners name with 100% and his name 0% meant that he know longer owned any equity of hers. After signing he found out that this meant that he'd signed away all of his equity in the property and signed it to her. He's still liable to pay the mortgage payments with 0% equity of the property.
We have been told that there is a law in place which gives means for a loop hole when something has been signed for unknowingly, but I'm not familiar with anything of this matter. Any help or ideas? To be honest he just wants rid of the property with equity or without because at the moment he's still on the land registry and the mortgage Thanks

That would be "a solicitor", not getting legal help is the reason he's in this mess in the first place.0
