Lowell group debt, that I can't remember

I decided to sign up with Annual credit report online. I have 3 lots of debt from Lowell group, I know I had one this was around 5 years ago or 6 with very. I'm sure I had paid them off but I can't think what the other two are!

I've never had a credit card and I'm always able to pay my bills on time (luckily)

The first one is for £533
The second £474
The third £233

I had to google who Lowell were and have seen comments like 'don't call them' 'they are frauds'

I want to pay off this debt but I want to know what it's for...fair enough it's mine. I don't want to pay off over months and would prefer to rid of this debt.

I would like opinions on calling them to ask for a settlement (something I've never done)
Or opinions on anyone who has dealt with them.

Thanks

    Hi,

Are they chasing you for any of these debts ?

Have you paid anything to any of them in the last 6 years ?

The defaults only stay on your file 6 years, after which they will drop off for good.

So they could be statute barred now, or soon, so don't do anything rash, oh, you are correct, you should never ring a DCA, everything in writing only.

Thanks for reply, unfortunately I can't log back into my account and I've tried so many times I've blocked it. So annoying.

One of the debts was from 2009 and no I haven't paid into any of them.

My real concern is having the debt cleared as Soon as possible for a mortgage. For this reason I wouldn't mind paying off a settlement but I don't want to pay for debt I can't remember!

I have had texts from them and possibly calls with no caller id.
I just ordered a credit report with experian for £2 hopefully it might hold more details

Lowell's letters usually make it quite clear who they bought the debt from and what the original reference was.

IF they write to you and IF you don't recognise the debt then you could send a prove-it

It's more likely that they'll write now that you have requested a credit report. Unless you are desperate to clean things up ahead of a mortgage application or letting agency check, I'd sit tight for now.

OK, cross posted. You could try adapting a prove-it and writing to them

Obtaining your credit report flags up to debt collectors that you are "active" again.
You should go with the provit letter, see what comes back.

Remember, paid or not, they will vanish from your report after 6 years.

I am desperate to clear due to mortgage application, I know my debt is not a huge amount and now you mention it, I'm sure they were all shop direct which I assume was very. I did shop at very ONCE the others I don't know.

Could I not contact very? And ask about the account? Or once it goes to Lowell is that it?

I'm so sure I paid very, so they should have my payments on files?

So I sent the prove it to Lowell? How are they likely to respond knowing I owe debt?

There are a few variables here, the accounts could be statute barred by now.

They either send you proof you owe the debt, and they are legally entitled to collect it, or they will say they can't, in which case you will owe nothing.

Paying the debts won't make them go from your credit file any sooner.

How would I go about a mortgage application having paid off debt, if my credit is bad...I'm very confused here

Your credit will already be bad, from what you have said in your original post, you have 3 debts owned by Lowell, so that's 3 defaults, these defaults will show on your credit file for 6 years from date of default.

Paying them off will not change the default entry on your file, only time will do that.

So applying for a mortgage with 3 defaults on your credit file would not get a very positive responce I fear.
