Madam has just come in through the catflap, used the litter tray, and gone out again.

Anybody else's cat prefer to use the indoor facilities over the garden?

Yep. Demon Cat used to do - did it all his life from when he first started going out to the very last day he went out. You could usually tell by the speed he came back in, how desperate he was!

No but was speaking to someone where a neighbours cat would come in just to use the litter tray. She discovered she was cleaning up after someone elses cat as hers doesn't use it!

Yes, although she cannot get out of our garden so she has little choice.

I know this may sound like a mad question; but why do you have a litter in the house, for your cats, when they are able to get outside? (via a catflap.)

If there is a way for the cats to get out, and they are not 'housecats,' I'm a bit baffled as to why you even have a litter.

Cats always need access to a litter tray, otherwise during the night, poor weather, when fire works are being let off etc they are unable to safely toilet. Its also important to know your cats urination habits as they are a common sign of illness if they change.

Barney was an indoor cat until I had him when he was seven. He wouldn't dream of 'going' in the garden. I trained him to stay in the back garden and he always runs in to use the bathroom. (that's where his toilet is located too). Don't you?

My cat came to us as a 9 yr old rescue. She wasn't used to alitter tray but because we kept her inside for the first week to get used to us, she took to the tray really well.

Too well really because even though she now comes and goes through her cat flap as she pleases, she much prefers to use the tray (but not every time, I have seen her go in the garden occasionally...though I have a suspicion it's more for territory marking purposes)

The first thing she does when Daddy cleans out her litter tray, is poop in the nice clean litter, bless!

Our girlycat always did this. I never really knew why, though felt glad there wasn't going to be poo in our (or our neighbour's) garden. It also helped us to monitor her health as she was diagnosed with CKD and her toilet habits were a great help with initially realising something was wrong.

I keep her in at night hence need for the tray. Can't be arsed to move it out of useable place during the day - it's heavy.

Mine only goes out in the summer months but he always comes back in to use the tray. He'll mark the hedges in the back garden but that's his limit - he wouldn't dream of pooing in anything other than a lovely clean litter tray :D
